“Kesagake(袈裟懸け)” means to hang something diagonally from the shoulder. In Tenshin-ryu, it refers to cutting diagonally. This term originates from the monk’s garment, the kesa(袈裟).
While “Kesagake” refers to cutting downward diagonally, cutting upward diagonally in Tenshin-ryu is called “Kesagheshi (袈裟外し)”.
